Jennifer Cheng

Independent Director

Ms. Cheng is a co-founder of Social Energy Partners LLC, which pioneered the Intelligent Building as-a-Service model to accelerate the adoption of sustainability technologies and building IoT. Ms. Cheng also served as an independent director of Energy Focus from 2012 to July 2014. Previously, she was the founder and Chairwoman of The X/Y Group, a marketing enterprise that markets and distributes global consumer brand products, including JanSport and Skechers in the greater China region. Previously, Ms. Cheng was a Marketing Director for Molten Metal Technology, a Boston-based clean energy company that developed patented technologies and offered solutions for advanced treatment and energy recycling for hazardous radioactive waste. Ms. Cheng received B.S. in Economics and International Business from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration with focus on Marketing and Finance.

Gina Huang (Mei Yun Huang)

Independent Director

Ms. Huang is the Founder and Honorary Consultant of Ti Town Technology Limited (previously, the Chairwoman), an advanced industrial and mechanical equipment manufacturer based in Taiwan that specializes in the design, production, marketing and sales of corrosion-resistant pumps and motors, advanced filters and specialty alloys for semiconductor, electronic and chemical manufacturing industries, with offices across Asia and sales across the world. Ms. Huang is also the Founder and Chairwoman of Da Fa Industrial Limited, an investment company focusing on the global mining sector, as well as the Founder and Chairwoman of Brilliant Start Limited and Jag International Limited, both investment companies focusing on technologies and special situations. Ms. Huang received a B.A. degree in Textile Design from Vanung University in Taiwan.

Geraldine McManus

Independent Director

Ms. McManus (“Gerrie”) joined Granger Management in May 2014 as a Managing Member. Previously, Gerrie was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in the Investment Management Division. Gerrie worked at Goldman Sachs from February 1998 until February 2014 where she helped build the firm’s Private Wealth Management business focused on ultra-high net worth individuals and family groups. In addition to developing and managing relationships for a select number of significant family groups, Gerrie advised on the development of the business model along with several key functions including strategic & tactical asset allocation, access to external investment managers, and trust and estate advisory capabilities. In 2000, Gerrie moved to London to introduce and implement an international business plan. She returned to New York in 2002 where she maintained and developed strategic relationships. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Gerrie was at Merrill Lynch for six years where she was a Managing Director heading the Yankee Debt Capital Markets Group. Her responsibilities included advising sovereigns, supranational and international corporations on global debt issuance and liability management. Before working at Merrill Lynch, Gerrie was at Salomon Brothers for six years, two years as an associate in Corporate Finance and four years as a Product Specialist in the Hedge Management/Derivatives Group. Gerrie received a B.S. from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Wharton. She is on the Board of Regents for The Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey and on The Board of Trustees for The Jane Goodall Institute.

Philip Politziner

Independent Director

Mr. Politziner was a founder, President and a member of the Board of Directors of Amper Politziner and Mattia. He was appointed as a Board Director for Jensyn Acquisition Corporation (NASDAQ:JSYN) in 2016, where he had been the Chairman of the Audit Committee until June 2019 when it consummated its merger with Peck Electric Co. He previously served on the Board of Director of Baker Tilly International North America, New Jersey Technology Council and the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded the Chamber of Commerce “Community Leader of Distinction” and was inducted into NJBiz Hall of Fame for business people in New Jersey. He also appears in Who’s Who in Corporate Finance. Mr. Politziner received his B.S. in Accounting from New York University and is currently licensed as a CPA in New Jersey. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA).

Stephen Socolof

Lead External Board Member

Mr. Socolof has been a Managing Partner of Tech Council Ventures, a venture fund investing in early-stage growth opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic region, since 2017. Prior to Tech Council Ventures, he created and ran a venture incubator for Lucent’s Bell Laboratories from 1996 until 2001, and was a member of the team that formed and ran New Venture Partners from 2001, investing in the commercialization of technologies spun out of corporate labs. Previously, Mr. Socolof spent 8 years with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where he was a leader in the practice focused on enhancing corporate innovation. Mr. Socolof holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematical sciences from Stanford University and received his M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College, where he currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the Center for the Study of Private Equity. He is a director on the boards of ChoiceWORX and Everspin Technologies, which is a Nasdaq-listed semiconductor and electronics technology company, and a board observer of SunRay Scientific and Vydia.

James Tu

Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Tu rejoined Energy Focus in April 2019, and currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Tu previously served as Executive Chairman of the Board, non-Executive Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President of Energy Focus from 2013 through 2017. Since 2017, Mr. Tu is the Founder and Chairman of Social Energy Partners LLC, which develops energy efficiency and sustainability projects in the U.S. and the Middle East. He is also the founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of 5 Elements Global Advisors, an investment advisory and management company focusing on investing in clean energy companies and a stockholder of the Company. Previously, he was the Director of Investment Management & Research for Gerstein Fisher & Associates, a wealth management company with $2 billion of assets, and Equity Analyst for Dolphin Asset Management, a hedge fund focused on publicly traded small-cap companies and private equity investments. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Mr. Tu received a Master’s degree in Business Administration in Finance from Baruch College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University.
